Duncan Barker is pleased to accept commissions of all kinds (including decorative and mural works), and to undertake private tuition and guest-tutoring for private groups (self-catering accommodation is available - please enquire).
Neither wholly autodidact nor art-school graduate, Duncan Barker grew up in a home redolent of oil paint and turpentine, pursuing both Art and Classics to the end of his career at Nottingham High School.
A scholar of Corpus Christi College, Cambridge, where he read Classics, he won a Donnelley Exchange Scholarship to the University of Chicago, taking an MA in Art History including Fine Art, before returning to Cambridge to complete a PhD on the symbolism of gold in Roman society.
He taught for twenty years in higher and secondary education - at the Universities of Bristol and Nottingham and at Sherborne School and Lancing College, where he was Head of Classics and Head of Academic Scholars - before moving to the South of France in 2013 in order to paint and full-time.
He works, exhibits and sells from his studio in the Gard.
